Creating Boundaries – Grace, 38 Yrs. Bungoma – Kenya | Ep 6.

What inspired you to pursue this journey, and how did you overcome initial challenges? Growing up, I had very low self-esteem and so I lived my life trying to please everyone so that they don’t leave me.

Please share a significant moment or decision that played a significant role in your success? I went through therapy and began building my self-esteem. Then I discovered that I could enjoy my own company and it was okay to be alone (and not lonely).
I also realized how inconveniencing and draining it was to always put my needs in the back burner and put everyone else’s first.
How do you navigate work-life balance and maintain your well-being amidst the success? That is a difficult one because my job is a bit demanding, however this is what I do;

  • I get my children to help around the house.
  • I get help when overwhelmed
  • I know I cannot be perfect so I don’t beat myself up when I don’t get everything done.
  • I create time at least once a week to be with family.

What advice would you give to aspiring women on a similar journey or who dream of the same kind of success? As women, we are trained to take care of everyone except ourselves; Spouse, in-laws, children, guests, etc. Always putting their needs before ours. But you can’t give what you don’t have. It is okay to take care of yourself first, and say no to things and situations that don’t serve you.

In the face of setbacks, how do you stay resilient and continue to thrive in your journey? I always remind myself that I have what it takes to overcome, but I also know that I may not win all the time and it is okay.
