Grief, Weight Loss and Breast Cancer – Vivianne, 45 Yrs. Nairobi – Kenya | Ep 10.

What inspired you to pursue this journey, and how did you overcome initial challenges? A friend by the name Linda Gondi who kept on posting her workouts on her WhatsApp status. I had hit 125kgs during Covid-19 and most of my clothes were not fitting anymore.

Please share a significant moment or decision that played a significant role in your success? Consistency and watching my diet worked for me. My late daughter Emmy encouraged me and made sure she prepared my meals. After her death I couldn’t sleep at night and going to the gym worked for me, I would be so tired and fall asleep.

How do you navigate work-life balance and maintain your well-being amidst the success? Prayers and early morning workout.

What advice would you give to aspiring women on a similar journey or who dream of the same kind of success? Be consistent in working out, watching what you eat is very important, love yourself and don’t be hard on yourself.

About grief, if you are going through grief don’t worry it has no timeline or expiry date so no one should tell you, you have mourned enough. I tried to suppress grief because of being judged by a close friend who I thought understood.

Grief is a personal journey, it’s also good to walk with a counsellor, I  had refused to walk with one because I felt they did not understand my journey, that was until I got into depression and had to see a psychiatrist.

In the face of setbacks, how do you stay resilient and continue to thrive in your journey?

I pray and get up on my feet and start again.

I have learnt to accept what I can’t change and let go. I have walked out of relationships that drain me especially people I have really stood with in the past. I have learnt that not everyone you help will appreciate.

Overcoming Breast Cancer in 2023 was an answer to prayer. Having God and the right people around me made the journey bearable especially during hospitalisation and radiotherapy.

I appreciate my family more that ever. I thank God for a loving husband, my daughters, my parents and my siblings who have remained the best in my journey.

I am highly indebted to a friend, Christine Ahindi. Christine has walked with from the time I lost my child, she prays with me and encourages.
