You Can Rise – Maureen Njeri Muthii, 28 Yrs. Nyeri – Kenya | Ep 25.

In which
area of life have you been most successful and comfortable to share with the
world about?
Business.

What
inspired you to pursue this journey, and how did you overcome
initial challenges?
My journey started when a friend asked me to help her with the work at
her salon. I grew fond of it, felt a connection to the work after realizing how
good I was at it. There was something about relating with the clients that
pushed me to love what I was doing. I realized the more the women felt
comfortable, the more they open up and you’re able to listen to each other and
get to ease the burden at heart. I realized people just needed a shoulder to
lean on and when offered one, they are at ease. I did not settle, I worked
harder, secured my place and I opened my own beauty salon which I can say has
not been easy. I had to start from scratch having no clients and yet bills were
there to be paid. I did not quit, I progressed and I can say it’s not for the
faint hearted. I’m now in my own beauty salon (Havens locs and beauty services)
and I’ve managed to employ several ladies who enjoying doing what we do.

Please share a significant
moment or decision that played a significant role in your success?
When I was at my friend’s salon, I realized how
bonds were created with our clients. Women just need someone to listen to them
and try to see things from their perspective. With this, I felt that not only
did I make a living but also offered a comfort space where ladies felt heard
and understood.

How do you navigate work-life
balance and maintain your well-being amidst the success?
I believe in team work. At my area of work, we
foster oneness and not only are we there to work but also to stand with each
other. As women, we encounter many challenges and have mastered the act of
being there to hold hands and this has pushed us to greatness. When
overwhelmed, I enjoy working out.

What advice
would you give to aspiring women on a similar journey or who dream of the same
kind of success?
Believe
in yourself. If you don’t have belief in yourself, nobody will. The thing you
enjoy doing, give it your all and appreciate those around you. Once you’ve set
your eyes on something, practice consistency and trust the process.

In the face of setbacks, how do
you stay resilient and continue to thrive in your journey?
I’m a Christian. I turn to God whenever
situations get hard and I am feeling down. I talk to Him as I believe He is the
centre of all
 in my life.
