Breaking The Agricultural Barriers – Rasoha Wirukha, 64 Yrs. Kaimosi – Vihiga | Ep 26.

In which
area of life have you been most successful and comfortable to share with the
world about?
Agricultural farming

What
inspired you to pursue this journey, and how did you overcome
initial challenges?
My Twin sister inspired me to pursue the journey. One day I visited her
in Migori county where she is married and is in residency there. I found her on
a large farm very busy planting different seeds and crops. She didn’t have
enough time as she was concentrated on cultivation and I asked her why she
wasn’t giving me some attention and she showed me 100000 shillings in her
account. “All this money?” I asked her, “yes” she said, “this is
what I got from this agricultural farming for the sale of the produces last
month”. I was touched since I was always dependent on people for money. I saw her
actions and I told her to teach me. For three days I stayed with her and she
gave me 20000 shillings to go and start my own farming journey. That is how I
made up my mind and started agricultural farming that has advanced to this date
and I make my own money without depending on anybody.

Please share a significant
moment or decision that played a significant role in your success?
When I visited my sister and she showed me 100000
shillings which she got from the sale of her farm products. She gave me 20000
shillings to start up my own farming setup. That is what made me decide that I
can do farming and make my own money without depending on anybody and I
succeeded in the agriculture.

How do you navigate work-life
balance and maintain your well-being amidst the success?
I have a family and my efforts in the
agricultural sector is what provides for them. I get time to sit down with them
and discuss on our issues and wellbeing. Having money isn’t the solution to
everything and I try to spend as much time with my family. I am a member of a
church and a leader and this plays a big role in teaching my fellow church
members about what I do and explain how I make my living through agriculture.

What advice
would you give to aspiring women on a similar journey or who dream of the same
kind of success?
I can
tell them that everything is possible so long as you give it a try. We can
learn from friends or just try it ourselves and see the change it brings. I do
not depend much on funds from outside as I am sure of the sales of my products.
Agriculture is a good economic activity and it is worth giving a try.

In the face of setbacks,
how do you stay resilient and continue to thrive in your journey?
Agriculture
has many problems that come with it, lack of rain, too much of it and all these
aren’t much under any farmers control. I visit agricultural offices and talk to
the officers inquiring on as many questions on problems I might be facing and
how to overcome them. I am always introducing new farming methods and new crops
based on the weather and this makes my agriculture to thrive day in day out.
